Whats happening in Lakshadweep and why Islanders protesting against BJP administrators?

What broke the proverbial straw was none of these. Until December end, there was a Standard Operating Procedure to prevent COVID-19 cases in Lakshadweep. It mandated a negative RT-PCR test report for outsiders to enter the islands, followed by a week-long home quarantine.

Lakshadweep, the group of 36 islands is known for its exotic and sun-kissed beaches and lush green landscape. The name Lakshadweep in Malayalam and Sanskrit means ‘a hundred thousand islands’. ”

India’s smallest Union Territory Lakshadweep is an archipelago consisting of 36 islands with an area of 32 sq km.  away from the coastal city of Kochi in Kerala, in the emerald Arabian Sea. The natural landscapes, the sandy beaches, abundance of flora and fauna and the absence of a rushed lifestyle enhance the mystique of Lakshadweep.

In such a place, how does one make sense of bringing a new law, called the Draft Lakshadweep Panchayat Regulation 2021, that will ban parents with more than two children contesting local body elections?

What is happening in Lakshadweep right now?
Let’s talk of Praful Khoda Patel, a BJP leader who is currently the Administrator of UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu and also Administrator of UT of Lakshadweep.

He has been always a controversial leader. In 2019 he has violated provisions under Representation of People Act 1951. In the same year he has ordered the confiscation of their land and demolition of homes to make way for development. When locals protested, the collector imposed Section 144 and 70 protestors were put in jails. Only few were rehoused while most languished traumatised and homeless on the streets near the rubble of their razed homes.

He is also an accused in murder of Tribal rights advocate and Lok Sabha MP Mohanbhai Sanjibhai Delkar.

On 24th May 2021, the official twitter handle of Kerala Students Union- the Kerala wing of National Students Union of India was suspended for a tweet against Praful Patel on 23rd May 2021. Later, a local news portal was also blocked by India government. Island administration is also said to have instructed port authorities to cut ties with Beypore port in Kerala and has asked to divert all maritime exchanges to Manglore port. It was also reported that all diary farms in the island have been shut down and diary products will now be shipped from Gujarat, where Praful hails from. The campaign was against the new administrations plans to deregulate alcohol, prohibit beef and cow slaughter, and removing meat from mid-day meals. More than 95% Lakshadweep natives are Muslims. It was claimed by locals that the administration was implementing Hindutva agendas. Acts like implementation of Goonda Act in a place with one of the lowest crime rates in India has sparked anger amongst people of the Lakshadweep. The Administrator did not consult panchayat authorities before preparing the draft of the Panchayat regulations (amendment) draft

Messi turns 34 .What makes Lionel Messi 'The Greatest of All Time '.#HappyBirthdayLeoMessi

Lionel Messi, unarguably one of the greatest footballers of all time, turns 36 years old today (June 24, 2023). The Argentine superstar has mesmerised fans all over the globe ever since making his debut for Barcelona at the age of 16. While Messi never fails to send chills down the spine of opponents on the football field, off the field, there aren't many who can challenge him either. Before I even start, I won’t talk about Individual awards & team trophies. I always hated this method to say who’s a better footballer. Truth is, Cruyff and Di Stefano were the best at there time without any international trophy, and Messi was robbed of 6 Ballon d’Ors. I’d also want to say it shouldn’t be a question: Messi is the greatest footballer to ever grace the pitch. But since I’m here, I’ll still justify why he is. 1. Goalscoring At the moment I’m writing this, Messi has scored 617 official goals. In other ways, he’s the second greatest goalscorer still playing alongside C. Ronaldo, who’s ...
